WhatsApp Interaction¶
Patients interact with the GDM Assistant via standard WhatsApp.

Enrollment & Access Control¶
To use the system, patients must first be enrolled on the EHR Platform by a clinician. The GDM Assistant behaves differently depending on the patient's enrollment status:
1. Unenrolled Patients¶
If a patient texts the assistant before being enrolled: * The assistant will not provide any medical help or management advice. * It will strictly advise and direct the patient to visit the hospital to get enrolled.
2. Enrolled Patients¶
Once the patient is officially enrolled on the platform: * The assistant provides help using the current management plan provided by the doctor. * It can assist with tracking, education, and adherence based on the patient's specific profile.
Features¶
Patients can ask questions like:
"What should I eat for breakfast?"
The AI responds with approved dietary guidelines.
Patients can log data:
"My blood sugar is 6.5"
The system records this in the database.
Patients can send audio messages in English or Twi. The system transcribes them and responds in text (or audio, if configured).
Limitations¶
The bot performs a "hand-off" if it cannot understand or if the query is strictly medical and urgent.
